Short bio

Hanne Tyrmi (b. 1954) is educated at The National Academy of Fine Arts, Oslo (1981-85). She lives and works in Oslo and Stryken in Lunner.

Tyrmi has been active on the national and international art scene since the 1980s. She mainly works with sculpture and installations in combination with film, photography, text and sound. Tyrmi's work revolves around the relationship between individual and society, gender and identity. Her expression thematizes a broad register of humanistic perspectives that range from the existentially vulnerable to criticism of gender role patterns and positions of power in society. These themes are shaped through a revitalization of sculptural techniques, where lead has been an important material in recent years.
